Our History of Providing Dental Coverage

With almost six decades' experience, we have established ourselves as an important dental carrier in New York. Over half a million patients are enrolled in our dental plans.

GHI has been administering dental programs since the 1950s, when we created indemnity-style benefits for large labor and government accounts. In the 1960s, we established our first PPO network plans, the M plans, to address labor market needs. We expanded our presence in the early 1980s, when the Spectrum network plan was developed and first marketed.

In 1988, GHI introduced the Preferred network, which supports the State of New York program and most of our dental plan enrollments. The Preferred network served as the foundation of the Dental Access Program, which debuted in 2000 as a dental plan for Federal employees enrolled in GHI medical plans. We developed the GHI Preferred Plus network in 2003, and in 2004 we introduced the GHI Preferred Plus plan to the marketplace.

In 2006, GHI became an EmblemHealth company. Dental plans under the EmblemHealth brand were introduced to the marketplace during the summer of 2009, and sales activity began that fall.
