How Can I Prevent Encephalitis?

There has already been considerable progress in preventing encephalitis. The elimination of smallpox and vaccines against mumps, measles and rubella have reduced the incidence of parainfectious encephalitis. Vaccines have been developed for people who travel to high-risk areas as well. Other ways to prevent it are to avoid viruses that can lead to the disease (like herpes) and to protect yourself against mosquitoes during outbreaks.
