Menopause

What Are the Symptoms?

Not all women experience symptoms with the onset of menopause. If symptoms occur, they may include:

  • Hot flashes — sudden reddening or heating of the face, neck and upper back, which may produce sweating. Flashes typically last only a few minutes.
  • Night sweats, which may disrupt sleep and lead to insomnia.
  • Pain during intercourse, caused by thinning of vaginal tissues and loss of lubrication.
  • Increased nervousness, anxiety, or irritability.
  • The need to urinate more often than before, especially during the night.

Call Your Doctor If:

Your symptoms are causing problems or interfering with your daily life. Your doctor may be able to prescribe medications to help with some of the symptoms you are experiencing.

You experience bleeding after menopause; among other possibilities, it may be a sign of uterine cancer, so you should be checked by your doctor.
